I was spending a day curating at an exhibition in Louth, my local town, when I realised there was a great painting subject right outside the door, so I moved my chair outside and sketched the roof profile quite carefully but left the rest deliberately vague. This is my preferred method of working. Back in the studio I am then free to interpret it however I wish.
